Influence's and the Racism Behind Them: An Exposé

YouTube is home to many celebrities and influencers whose main purpose is to entertain their  viewers and get their subscriber count up. To their subscribers, these people are perfect and can do no wrong, but sooner or later something comes out about these stars and, all of a sudden, their subscriber count plummets. Over the past couple of months, these influencers have be exposed for the racism they have expressed online in the past — either through tweets or old videos of them that have resurfaced. Take Advantage of BCCC Internship Opportunities

Internships are  offered to all  Bucks students, both full and part-time. In addition to that, students that are over 18 in a dual enrollment program, who are in high school taking courses at the college, are eligible to apply for an internship. Professor Brenda Seibert is in charge of the internships and is also the job developer for creating internships. Seibert’s job is to bridge the gap between the perspective employers and the students at Bucks. When a student fills out a form, Seibert reviews the form and then takes that information to match them with a potential employer. Read more.

Funeral Director is Sentenced in Fraud Case

A funeral director is sentenced to prison after ripping off people who prepaid for their funerals by stealing their money and using it elsewhere.   David Wayne Faust, age 54, a Hulmeville Pa resident and business owner, pleaded guilty on June 5, 2018, for collecting 100,000 in Social Security Disability Benefits and stole almost 300,000 from over a dozen clients who prepaid for their funerals by forging death certificates despite some being alive, over a span of 17 years. It is believed that there were 54 victims in total ripped off by Faust. Read more.

Bombs Sent to Prominent Democrats

A series of bombs have been sent to prominent Democratic figures such as former President Barack Obama, and are being treated as domestic terrorism. The devices are believed to be pipe bombs, which are known to be extremely unstable and can be set off just by being handled. Multiple packages have been sent to Democratic figures who have been openly critical of President Trump. On Monday, Oct. 22, a parcel was delivered to billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros. An employee of Soros opened the parcel and discovered what appeared to be a pipe bomb. They placed the parcel in a wooded area and proceeded to call the police. Read more.  

Students Repsond to the Threat of Climate Change

Climate change threatens the future generation’s quality of life but with careful consideration many individuals can easily reverse this in multiple ways. The United Nations panel’s researchers found that “human caused” carbon dioxide emissions need to be cut in half from the projected 2010 levels. To avoid the worst effects from climate change this needs to be accomplished by 2030.  Climate change is affecting the U.S and the rest of world. As of right now the world is warming, sea levels are rising, and polar ice caps are melting due to the rising temperatures. Severe and destructive weather has also become more common in recent years. Reaction at Bucks to Kavanaugh’s Confirmation

Bucks students and professors had mixed reactions to the news that Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault while under the influence, was confirmed as the new Supreme Court Justice on Oct 6. Kavanaugh now has life tenure on the most important court in the country. “He should have been rescinded due to his display of his character during the hearing. He was very aggressive and agitated while sober. What is he like when he’s intoxicated?” said freshman Jennifer Abele. But freshman student Lucy Pavlow felt that Kavanaugh shouldn’t have been rescinded until after an investigation was done to decisively prove if the allegations were true or false.   Read more.

Update in Bucks Hacking Scandal

Last November, two Bucks County women were arrested for hacking into the Bucks County Community College computer system to change theirs and other students’ grades. The two women arrested were Kelly Margaret Marryott, a 37-year-old from Yardley employed at a medical office and Aleisha Morosco, a 30-year-old part-time student at Bucks from New Hope. Marryott used her position at a doctor’s office to gain personal information about a professor at Bucks and was able to pass the information to Morosco.    Read more.

Bucks Short Fiction Contest is Back for a Second Year

Short Fiction Contest is underway! It started in the fall of 2016 as Professor Elizabeth Luciano’s sabbatical project, it was first run in the fall of 2017.  Since Bucks County already has a poetry contest, the short fiction contest was created to give fiction writers a chance to showcase their work. According to Luciano, the two contests complement each other well. “It was a real diversity of work submitted,” said Luciano, referring to the 60 plus submissions the contest received its first year, which was much more successful than expected. The contest was originally funded through the Strategic Grant, which is good for one year only. However, due to its popularity, it is now funded through the Bucks Language and Literature Department.   Read more.
